Alchemy is committed to the task of enabling the continuous positive transformation of our cities by providing creative and insightful professional services in the areas of urban planning, urban design and urban management. Alchemy Urban Systems Pvt. Ltd. was established in 2007 by Mr. B. R. Balachandran, an Architect and Urban Planner. He was one of the core team members of Environmental Planning Collaborative (EPC), Ahmedabad for ten years. From 2001 to 2006, he headed EPC's operations as its Executive Director. In December 2006, he decided to move to Bangalore and establish a new organization. He is supported by Ms. Sowmya Haran, also an Architect and Urban Planner. Mr. Balachandran brings to this new venture, the unique experience of being personally involved in the preparation of Development Plans and other town planning projects for several cities in India. The Development Plan and Town Planning Schemes that were prepared for the earthquake-devastated city of Bhuj under his leadership, have resulted in a total transformation of that city. He has also been involved in many other pioneering efforts in urban reform during and after his tenure at EPC. Moreover, over the years, the promoters of Alchemy Urban Systems have developed a wide range of relationships in the urban planning profession and its related fields, thus enabling them to access a broad spectrum of professional services to support their work. Alchemy Urban Systems is currently engaged in a wide variety of projects from planning for decentralized waste water management (Kolhapur Municipal Corporation) to planning for post-flood reconstruction in Bihar (with UNDP and Bihar Government, through ODR Collaborative, a NGO network) and a regional development strategy for the conservation areas around Ellora caves. Alchemy’s work in the preparation of the Bhubaneswar South City Development Plan and Strategies for the Khandagiri Khurda Corridor has been greatly appreciated by our clients. This was done entirely on GIS. The Alchemy team was also part of the Comprehensive Mobility Planning and preparation of a DPR for a Bus Rapid Transit for Pimpri Chinchwad. Alchemy has a strong team of in-house professionals with specializations such as urban and regional planning, housing, environmental planning, architecture, urban economics and finance, etc. |
