CHF was commissioned by Gates Foundation to create a set of participatory development interventions for improving the living conditions of urban poor Local NGO’s have been playing a very important role in representing the needs of the economically weaker sections in Bangalore and influencing decision making to benefit them. However while many NGO’s are good at advocacy tasks, capacity in provision of physical and social infrastructure is limited. There is however, scope for improving local capacities in order to affect a positive impact on the lives of communities. Alchemy’s specific tasks were to develop project proposals through a short local needs assessment in Bangalore.
